Xiaomi Arch Tipped as World's First Dual-Edge Display Smartphone
♦Xiaomi is reportedly preparing a Galaxy Note Edge-like smartphone with a dual-edge display, dubbed the Xiaomi Arch.
According to GizmoChina on Saturday, a purported poster of the as-yet-unannounced Xiaomi Arch was spotted that called it the world's first phone with dual-edge display or dual-curved screen. However, the report doesn't reveal the source of the poster.
♦The Xiaomi Arch appears like a concept smartphone from the purported poster image (see above), and features a dual-edge display instead of just the single-edge display seen on the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.
♦While there is no confirmation from the Chinese manufacturer about the Xiaomi Arch, the two devices that are expected from the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi at CES 2015 are the Mi 5 or Mi 4S smartphone and the MiPad 2 tablet, which were both recently spotted in purported specifications and images.
♦From the purported image for the alleged Mi 5 or Mi 4S, the smartphone appeared to be a large screen phablet and was said to come with a sapphire glass display. The sapphire glass rumour is in line with a previous report, where the company was said to have ordered 50,000 sapphire covers for the smartphone.
♦As far as the specifications are concerned, the anticipated Mi 5 or Mi 4S smartphone is rumoured to feature a 5.7-inch Quad-HD (1440x2560 pixels) display; a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor; 3GB of RAM, and a 20.7-megapixel rear camera.
♦On the other hand, the anticipated next generation Xiaomi MiPad tablet, expected to be called the MiPad 2, is said feature an Intel chipset (1.8GHz), instead of an Nvidia Tegra SoC as seen on the original MiPad. The other tipped specifications of the rumoured MiPad 2 included a similar 7.9-inch display with a 2048x1536 pixels resolution; 2GB of RAM; 16GB of built-in storage, and MIUI skinned on top of Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
Lenovo's 4G Phone to Compete With Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G, Micromax's Yu Yureka on Price
☺Lenovo on Tuesday announced that it will soon be launching a new LTE smartphone in India at "an aggressive price point".
Detailing its intentions in a statement, Lenovo said it will launch the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410-based 4G LTE at CES 2015 in Las Vegas next week, and the phone will launch in India soon after. The Chinese consumer electronics giant also added the price range of the smartphone will be detailed at CES 2015.
☺While there's no official word on which smartphone the company is planning to launch, looking at the statement, however, it is quite apparent the firm will be launching the Lenovo 'Lemon' K3 smartphone that was recently launched in China.
☺The Lenovo K3 runs on a Snapdragon 410 processor, features 4G LTE connectivity, and has been priced at CNY 599 (roughly Rs. 6,000). At the time of the China launch, no word was given about global availability.
☺Sources at Lenovo familiar with matter also say that in the India the smartphone will be aggressively priced as compared to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G and Micromax's Yu Yureka, both of which offer 4G LTE connectivity.
☺The Redmi Note 4G is priced at Rs. 9,999, and Micromax's Yu Yureka at Rs. 8,999, which put in perspective the 'aggressive pricing' of the Lenovo K3.
☺Other specifications of the Android 4.4 KitKat-based Lenovo K3 include a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display with a pixel density of 294ppi, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of inbuilt storage with microSD card support, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front camera, dimensions of 141x70.5x7.9mm, and a 2300mAh battery. It also features Waves MaxxAudio technology.
Microsoft is building a new browser as part of its Windows 10 push
There's been talk for a while that Microsoft was going to make some big changes to Internet Explorer in the Windows 10 time frame, making IE "Spartan" look and feel more like Chrome and Firefox.
win10whatsnext.jpgIt turns out that what's actually happening is Microsoft is building a new browser, codenamed Spartan, which is not IE 12 -- at least according to a couple of sources of mine.
Thomas Nigro, a Microsoft Student Partner lead and developer of the modern version of VLC, mentioned on Twitter earlier this month that he heard Microsoft was building a brand-new browser. Nigro said he heard talk of this during a December episode of the LiveTile podcast.
Spartan is still going to use Microsoft's Chakra JavaScript engine and Microsoft's Trident rendering engine (not WebKit), sources say. As Neowin's Brad Sams reported back in September, the coming browser will look and feel more like Chrome and Firefox and will support extensions. Sams also reported on December 29 that Microsoft has two different versions of Trident in the works, which also seemingly supports the claim that the company has two different Trident-based browsers.
However, if my sources are right, Spartan is not IE 12. Instead, Spartan is a new, light-weight browser Microsoft is building.
Windows 10 (at least the desktop version) will ship with both Spartan and IE 11, my sources say. IE 11 will be there for backward-compatibility's sake. Spartan will be available for both desktop and mobile (phone/tablet) versions of Windows 10, sources say.
Spartan is just a codename at this point. My sources don't know what Microsoft plans to call this new browser when it debuts. The IE team hinted during a Reddit Ask Me Anything earlier this year that the team had contemplated changing the name of IE to try to get users to realize the much more standards-compliant IE of today is very different from older, proprietary versions of IE.
Microsoft may show off Spartan on January 21 when the company reveals its next set of Windows 10 features. But my sources also aren't sure if Spartan will be functional enough for inclusion in the Windows 10 January Technical Preview and mobile preview builds that are expected to be available to testers in early 2015. It may not show up in the test builds until some point later, they say.
Will Microsoft end up porting the Spartan browser to Android, iOS and/or any other non-Windows operating systems? I'm not sure. The IE team said a few months back that Microsoft had no plans to port IE to any non-Windows operating systems. But Spartan isn't IE. And these days, Microsoft is porting much of its software and services to non-Windows variants. So I'd say there's a chance that this could happen somewhere down the line ....

How to Shut Down a Computer Using Notepad
Steps:-
1. Open Notepad. This is the free text editing program that comes with every version of Windows. You can use it to create a command that, when run, will shut down Windows for you.
You can find Notepad by clicking the Start menu and selecting "Programs" → "Accessories" → "Notepad". You can also click the Start menu, type notepad, and press ↵ Enter.
2 Type .shutdown.exe -s on the first line. This is the command to shut down the computer.
3 Add a timer by using the .-t flag. By default, the shutdown process will be delayed by 30 seconds. You can change this by using the -t gflag with the number of seconds you want to delay.
For example, to create a shutdown command that waits 45 seconds, type shutdown.exe -s -t 45.
To create a shutdown command that shuts the computer down immediately, type shutdown.exe -s -t 00.
4 Add a message to be displayed. If you want, you can add a personalized message to the shut down notice by using the -c flag. Using the above example, type shutdown.exe -s -t 45 -c "comment". The comment must be in quotes.[1]
For example, you can let the user know how long until the shutdown begins by typing shutdown.exe -s -t 45 -c "Computer will shut down in 45 seconds".
5 Click "File" and select "Save As". You will need to save the file as a batch file, which Windows can execute to run the shutdown command.
6 Click the "Save as type" drop-down menu and select "All Files (*.*)". This will allow you to change the file type.
7 Delete the ..txt from the end of the file name. Replace it with .bat.
If you don't see the three letter file extensions, click here.
8 Save the file. A new copy will be created with the .bat extension, and it will have a different icon than a standard text file.
9 Run the newly-created file to run your shutdown process. The shutdown will occur according to the rules you created.
Make sure you've saved anything you need to before running the shut down program.

Apple India Hints at Zero Downpayment Plans for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus
Reliance Communications' zero downpayment plans for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were first reported back in October. However, there has been no announcement regarding the Zero Plan offer from either company.
Now, further cementing the fact that the Reliance Zero Plan for new iPhones might be around the corner, the Apple India website is seen to include a link to Reliance's official eShop. Notably, the link on the Apple site only leads to Reliance's official online eShop home page.
Unfortunately, the Reliance eShop site does not list the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (or any iPhone) under its Zero Plan offers hinting that the offer is in final stages and we have to still wait for the official announcement. One of our readers spotted the new button available on the Apple India site.
As seen with the previous leaked zero downpayment plans for the new iPhones, Reliance could offer the iPhone 6 at Rs. 3,099 per month for 24 months, while the iPhone 6 Plus at Rs. 3,599 per month for 24 months. There were no details about which storage variant available under Rcom's Zero Plan, but the per month pricing translated to a total of Rs. 74,376 over two years for the iPhone 6, and Rs. 86,376 over two years for the iPhone 6 Plus.

Bermuda Triangle
Triangle area
The first written boundaries date from an article by Vincent Gaddis in a 1964 issue of the pulp magazine Argosy,[7] where the triangle's three vertices are in Miami, Florida peninsula; in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and in the mid-Atlantic island of Bermuda.[4] But subsequent writers did not follow this definition.[4] Some writers give different boundaries and vertices to the triangle, with the total area varying from 1,300,000 to 3,900,000 km2 (500,000 to 1,510,000 sq mi). Consequently, the determination of which accidents have occurred inside the triangle depends on which writer reports them. The United States Board on Geographic Names does not recognize this name, and it is not delimited in any map drawn by US government agencies.
The area is one of the most heavily traveled shipping lanes in the world, with ships crossing through it daily for ports in the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean Islands. Cruise ships are also plentiful, and pleasure craft regularly go back and forth between Florida and the islands. It is also a heavily flown route for commercial and private aircraft heading towards Florida, the Caribbean, and South America from points north.
History
Origins
The earliest allegation of unusual disappearances in the Bermuda area appeared in a September 17, 1950 article published in The Miami Herald (Associated Press)[8] by Edward Van Winkle Jones.[9] Two years later, Fate magazine published "Sea Mystery at Our Back Door",[10] a short article by George X. Sand covering the loss of several planes and ships, including the loss of Flight 19, a group of five U.S. Navy TBM Avenger bombers on a training mission. Sand's article was the first to lay out the now-familiar triangular area where the losses took place. Flight 19 alone would be covered again in the April 1962 issue of American Legion magazine.[11] In it, author Allan W. Eckert wrote that the flight leader had been heard saying, "We are entering white water, nothing seems right. We don't know where we are, the water is green, no white." He also wrote that officials at the Navy board of inquiry stated that the planes "flew off to Mars. Sand's article was the first to suggest a supernatural element to the Flight 19 incident. In the February 1964 issue of Argosy, Vincent Gaddis' article "The Deadly Bermuda Triangle" argued that Flight 19 and other disappearances were part of a pattern of strange events in the region. The next year, Gaddis expanded this article into a book, Invisible Horizons.[13]
Others would follow with their own works, elaborating on Gaddis' ideas: John Wallace Spencer (Limbo of the Lost, 1969, repr. 1973);[14] Charles Berlitz (The Bermuda Triangle, 1974);[15] Richard Winer (The Devil's Triangle, 1974),[16] and many others, all keeping to some of the same supernatural elements outlined by Eckert.[17]
Larry Kusche
Lawrence David Kusche, a research librarian from Arizona State University and author of The Bermuda Triangle Mystery: Solved (1975)[18] argued that many claims of Gaddis and subsequent writers were often exaggerated, dubious or unverifiable. Kusche's research revealed a number of inaccuracies and inconsistencies between Berlitz's accounts and statements from eyewitnesses, participants, and others involved in the initial incidents. Kusche noted cases where pertinent information went unreported, such as the disappearance of round-the-world yachtsman Donald Crowhurst, which Berlitz had presented as a mystery, despite clear evidence to the contrary. Another example was the ore-carrier recounted by Berlitz as lost without trace three days out of an Atlantic port when it had been lost three days out of a port with the same name in the Pacific Ocean. Kusche also argued that a large percentage of the incidents that sparked allegations of the Triangle's mysterious influence actually occurred well outside it. Often his research was simple: he would review period newspapers of the dates of reported incidents and find reports on possibly relevant events like unusual weather, that were never mentioned in the disappearance stories.
Kusche concluded that:
The number of ships and aircraft reported missing in the area was not significantly greater, proportionally speaking, than in any other part of the ocean.
In an area frequented by tropical storms, the number of disappearances that did occur were, for the most part, neither disproportionate, unlikely, nor mysterious;
Furthermore, Berlitz and other writers would often fail to mention such storms or even represent the disappearance as having happened in calm conditions when meteorological records clearly contradict this.
The numbers themselves had been exaggerated by sloppy research. A boat's disappearance, for example, would be reported, but its eventual (if belated) return to port may not have been.
Some disappearances had, in fact, never happened. One plane crash was said to have taken place in 1937 off Daytona Beach, Florida, in front of hundreds of witnesses; a check of the local papers revealed nothing.
The legend of the Bermuda Triangle is a manufactured mystery, perpetuated by writers who either purposely or unknowingly made use of misconceptions, faulty reasoning, and sensationalism.[18]
Further responses
When the UK Channel 4 television program The Bermuda Triangle (1992)[19] was being produced by John Simmons of Geofilms for the Equinox series, the marine insurance market Lloyd's of London was asked if an unusually large number of ships had sunk in the Bermuda Triangle area. Lloyd's determined that large numbers of ships had not sunk there.[20] Lloyd's does not charge higher rates for passing through this area.[3] United States Coast Guard records confirm their conclusion. In fact, the number of supposed disappearances is relatively insignificant considering the number of ships and aircraft that pass through on a regular basis.[18]
The Coast Guard is also officially skeptical of the Triangle, noting that they collect and publish, through their inquiries, much documentation contradicting many of the incidents written about by the Triangle authors. In one such incident involving the 1972 explosion and sinking of the tanker SS V. A. Fogg, the Coast Guard photographed the wreck and recovered several bodies,[21] in contrast with one Triangle author's claim that all the bodies had vanished, with the exception of the captain, who was found sitting in his cabin at his desk, clutching a coffee cup.[14] In addition, V. A. Fogg sank off the coast of Texas, nowhere near the commonly accepted boundaries of the Triangle.
The NOVA/Horizon episode The Case of the Bermuda Triangle, aired on June 27, 1976, was highly critical, stating that "When we've gone back to the original sources or the people involved, the mystery evaporates. Science does not have to answer questions about the Triangle because those questions are not valid in the first place ... Ships and planes behave in the Triangle the same way they behave everywhere else in the world."[22]
David Kusche pointed out a common problem with many of the Bermuda Triangle stories and theories: "Say I claim that a parrot has been kidnapped to teach aliens human language and I challenge you to prove that is not true. You can even use Einstein's Theory of Relativity if you like. There is simply no way to prove such a claim untrue. The burden of proof should be on the people who make these statements, to show where they got their information from, to see if their conclusions and interpretations are valid, and if they have left anything out."[22] Skeptical researchers, such as Ernest Taves[23] and Barry Singer,[24] have noted how mysteries and the paranormal are very popular and profitable. This has led to the production of vast amounts of material on topics such as the Bermuda Triangle. They were able to show that some of the pro-paranormal material is often misleading or inaccurate, but its producers continue to market it. Accordingly, they have claimed that the market is biased in favor of books, TV specials, and other media that support the Triangle mystery, and against well-researched material if it espouses a skeptical viewpoint. Finally, if the Triangle is assumed to cross land, such as parts of Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, or Bermuda itself, there is no evidence for the disappearance of any land-based vehicles or persons.[citation needed] The city of Freeport, located inside the Triangle, operates a major shipyard and an airport that handles 50,000 flights annually and is visited by over a million tourists a year.[25]
Supernatural explanations:
Triangle writers have used a number of supernatural concepts to explain the events. One explanation pins the blame on leftover technology from the mythical lost continent of Atlantis. Sometimes connected to the Atlantis story is the submerged rock formation known as the Bimini Road off the island of Bimini in the Bahamas, which is in the Triangle by some definitions. Followers of the purported psychic Edgar Cayce take his prediction that evidence of Atlantis would be found in 1968 as referring to the discovery of the Bimini Road. Believers describe the formation as a road, wall, or other structure, but the Bimini Road is of natural origin.[26]
Other writers attribute the events to UFOs.[27] This idea was used by Steven Spielberg for his science fiction film Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which features the lost Flight 19 aircrews as alien abductees.
Charles Berlitz, author of various books on anomalous phenomena, lists several theories attributing the losses in the Triangle to anomalous or unexplained forces.[15]
Natural explanations
Compass variations
Compass problems are one of the cited phrases in many Triangle incidents. While some have theorized that unusual local magnetic anomalies may exist in the area,[28] such anomalies have not been found. Compasses have natural magnetic variations in relation to the magnetic poles, a fact which navigators have known for centuries. Magnetic (compass) north and geographic (true) north are only exactly the same for a small number of places – for example, as of 2000 in the United States only those places on a line running from Wisconsin to the Gulf of Mexico.[29] But the public may not be as informed, and think there is something mysterious about a compass "changing" across an area as large as the Triangle, which it naturally will.[18]
False-color image of the Gulf Stream flowing north through the western Atlantic Ocean. (NASA)
Gulf Stream
The Gulf Stream is a deep ocean current that originates in the Gulf of Mexico and then flows through the Straits of Florida into the North Atlantic. In essence, it is a river within an ocean, and, like a river, it can and does carry floating objects. It has a surface velocity of up to about 2.5 metres per second (5.6 mi/h).[30] A small plane making a water landing or a boat having engine trouble can be carried away from its reported position by the current.
Human error
One of the most cited explanations in official inquiries as to the loss of any aircraft or vessel is human error.[31] Human stubbornness may have caused businessman Harvey Conover to lose his sailing yacht, the Revonoc, as he sailed into the teeth of a storm south of Florida on January 1, 1958.[32]
Violent weather
Tropical cyclones are powerful storms, which form in tropical waters and have historically cost thousands of lives lost and caused billions of dollars in damage. The sinking of Francisco de Bobadilla's Spanish fleet in 1502 was the first recorded instance of a destructive hurricane. These storms have in the past caused a number of incidents related to the Triangle.
A powerful downdraft of cold air was suspected to be a cause in the sinking of the Pride of Baltimore on May 14, 1986. The crew of the sunken vessel noted the wind suddenly shifted and increased velocity from 32 km/h (20 mph) to 97–145 km/h (60–90 mph). A National Hurricane Center satellite specialist, James Lushine, stated "during very unstable weather conditions the downburst of cold air from aloft can hit the surface like a bomb, exploding outward like a giant squall line of wind and water."[33] A similar event occurred to the Concordia in 2010 off the coast of Brazil.
Methane hydrates
Main article: Methane clathrate
Worldwide distribution of confirmed or inferred offshore gas hydrate-bearing sediments, 1996.
Source: USGS
An explanation for some of the disappearances has focused on the presence of large fields of methane hydrates (a form of natural gas) on the continental shelves.[34] Laboratory experiments carried out in Australia have proven that bubbles can, indeed, sink a scale model ship by decreasing the density of the water;[35][36][37] any wreckage consequently rising to the surface would be rapidly dispersed by the Gulf Stream. It has been hypothesized that periodic methane eruptions (sometimes called "mud volcanoes") may produce regions of frothy water that are no longer capable of providing adequate buoyancy for ships. If this were the case, such an area forming around a ship could cause it to sink very rapidly and without warning.
Publications by the USGS describe large stores of undersea hydrates worldwide, including the Blake Ridge area, off the coast of the southeastern United States.[38] However, according to the USGS, no large releases of gas hydrates are believed to have occurred in the Bermuda Triangle for the past 15,000 years.[20]

Ellen Austin
The Ellen Austin supposedly came across a derelict ship, placed on board a prize crew, and attempted to sail with it to New York in 1881. According to the stories, the derelict disappeared; others elaborating further that the derelict reappeared minus the prize crew, then disappeared again with a second prize crew on board. A check from Lloyd's of London records proved the existence of the Meta, built in 1854 and that in 1880 the Meta was renamed Ellen Austin. There are no casualty listings for this vessel, or any vessel at that time, that would suggest a large number of missing men were placed on board a derelict that later disappeared.[39]

USS Cyclops
Main article: USS Cyclops (AC-4)
The incident resulting in the single largest loss of life in the history of the US Navy not related to combat occurred when the collier USS Cyclops, carrying a full load of manganese ore and with one engine out of action, went missing without a trace with a crew of 309 sometime after March 4, 1918, after departing the island of Barbados. Although there is no strong evidence for any single theory, many independent theories exist, some blaming storms, some capsizing, and some suggesting that wartime enemy activity was to blame for the loss.[40][41] In addition, two of Cyclops 's sister ships, Proteus and Nereus were subsequently lost in the North Atlantic during World War II. Both ships were transporting heavy loads of metallic ore similar to that which was loaded on Cyclops during her fatal voyage. In all three cases structural failure due to overloading with a much denser cargo than designed is considered the most likely cause of sinking.
Carroll A. Deering
Main article: Carroll A. Deering
A five-masted schooner built in 1919, the Carroll A. Deering was found hard aground and abandoned at Diamond Shoals, near Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, on January 31, 1921. Rumors and more at the time indicated the Deering was a victim of piracy, possibly connected with the illegal rum-running trade during Prohibition, and possibly involving another ship, SS Hewitt, which disappeared at roughly the same time. Just hours later, an unknown steamer sailed near the lightship along the track of the Deering, and ignored all signals from the lightship. It is speculated that Hewitt may have been this mystery ship, and possibly involved in the Deering crew's disappearance.[42]
Flight 19
Main article: Flight 19
US Navy Avengers, similar to those of Flight 19
Flight 19 was a training flight of five TBM Avenger torpedo bombers that disappeared on December 5, 1945, while over the Atlantic. The squadron's flight plan was scheduled to take them due east from Fort Lauderdale for 141 miles, north for 73 miles, and then back over a final 140-mile leg to complete the exercise. The flight never returned to base. The disappearance is attributed by Navy investigators to navigational error leading to the aircraft running out of fuel.
One of the search and rescue aircraft deployed to look for them, a PBM Mariner with a 13-man crew, also disappeared. A tanker off the coast of Florida reported seeing an explosion[43] and observing a widespread oil slick when fruitlessly searching for survivors. The weather was becoming stormy by the end of the incident.[44] According to contemporaneous sources the Mariner had a history of explosions due to vapour leaks when heavily loaded with fuel, as for a potentially long search and rescue operation.
Star Tiger and Star Ariel
Main articles: BSAA Star Tiger disappearance and BSAA Star Ariel disappearance
G-AHNP Star Tiger disappeared on January 30, 1948, on a flight from the Azores to Bermuda; G-AGRE Star Ariel disappeared on January 17, 1949, on a flight from Bermuda to Kingston, Jamaica. Both were Avro Tudor IV passenger aircraft operated by British South American Airways.[45] Both planes were operating at the very limits of their range and the slightest error or fault in the equipment could keep them from reaching the small island. One plane was not heard from long before it would have entered the Triangle.[18]
Douglas DC-3
Main article: 1948 Airborne Transport DC-3 (DST) disappearance
On December 28, 1948, a Douglas DC-3 aircraft, number NC16002, disappeared while on a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Miami. No trace of the aircraft or the 32 people on board was ever found. From the documentation compiled by the Civil Aeronautics Board investigation, a possible key to the plane's disappearance was found, but barely touched upon by the Triangle writers: the plane's batteries were inspected and found to be low on charge, but ordered back into the plane without a recharge by the pilot while in San Juan. Whether or not this led to complete electrical failure will never be known. However, since piston-engined aircraft rely upon magnetos to provide spark to their cylinders rather than a battery powered ignition coil system, this theory is not strongly convincing.[46]
KC-135 Stratotankers
On August 28, 1963, a pair of US Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft collided and crashed into the Atlantic. The Triangle version (Winer, Berlitz, Gaddis[7][15][16]) of this story specifies that they did collide and crash, but there were two distinct crash sites, separated by over 160 miles (260 km) of water. However, Kusche's research[18] showed that the unclassified version of the Air Force investigation report stated that the debris field defining the second "crash site" was examined by a search and rescue ship, and found to be a mass of seaweed and driftwood tangled in an old buoy.
Connemara IV
A pleasure yacht was found adrift in the Atlantic south of Bermuda on September 26, 1955; it is usually stated in the stories (Berlitz, Winer[15][16]) that the crew vanished while the yacht survived being at sea during three hurricanes. The 1955 Atlantic hurricane season shows Hurricane Ione passing nearby between the 14th and 18th of that month, with Bermuda being affected by winds of almost gale force.[18] In his second book on the Bermuda Triangle, Winer quoted from a letter he had received from Mr J.E. Challenor of Barbados:[47]
On the morning of September 22 Connemara IV was lying to a heavy mooring in the open roadstead of Carlisle Bay. Because of the approaching hurricane, the owner strengthened the mooring ropes and put out two additional anchors. There was little else he could do, as the exposed mooring was the only available anchorage.
...
In Carlisle Bay, the sea in the wake of Hurricane Janet was awe-inspiring and dangerous. The owner of Connemara IV observed that she had disappeared. An investigation revealed that she had dragged her moorings and gone to sea.

HTC Planning to Launch More Entry-Level 4G Smartphones in Q1 2015
HTC will expand its entry-level 4G smartphone portfolio in the first quarter of next year, hints President of HTC North Asia, Jack Tong, in a media report.
Tong is also reported to have to revealed some statistics, such as HTC handsets sold online currently account for a 'double-digit ratio to its total sales'.
The DigiTimes report further cites Tong to say HTC will stress on promotion of affordable HTC handsets over the Internet. Tong also expects that HTC handset shipment will grow by a double-digit rate next year. He also revealed that the single-SIM Desire 820 will be available in markets starting January 2015.
The HTC North Asia President added that the company's RE camera has seen impressive response since its availability in early December. Tong expects that the RE camera will exceed 20,000 units by end of this year.
HTC's RE action camera earlier this month was made officially available in India via exclusive online partner, Snapdeal, priced at Rs. 9,990.
The Taiwanese handset brand has launched a number of budget and mid-range smartphones in India this year. Some of the popular handsets that created a buzz in the Indian market were the HTC Desire 816launched at Rs. 23,990, and which was soon followed by a cheaper version called the Desire 816G. Other handsets include the HTC Desire 210 Dual SIM priced at Rs. 8,700; HTC Desire 310 at Rs. 11,700; HTC Desire 516 Dual SIM priced at Rs. 14,200; HTC Desire 516C at Rs. 12,990, and HTC Desire 616 Dual SIM at Rs. 16,900.
The company also launched its "most affordable 4G LTE handset," the Desire 510, which is currently available in select markets in Europe and Asia.
Hasselblad H4D-60 $41,995
Who needs a house, a college education or medical insurance when you can have a Hasselblad? Released in 2009, the H4D-60 is what some might call "pricey". While the Hasselblad website won't give out prices on any of their equipment or even in their product brochures, reports online estimate this bad boy ranging from $41,995 to $43,000. Either way you price it, it is over $40,000 and that is some serious cash money. The name alludes to a few features that make this camera worth so much. Stemming from the company's point of pride, the H System cameras, this one boasts a 60 megapixel medium format sensor. Sixty. Sixty!!! Add to that the fact that they launched this camera with the new True Focus technology and the new Phocus 2.0 imaging software, this camera is in its own class of technology.
Designed, created and built for professionals, the new True Focus technology works hand-in-hand with Hasselblad's Absolute Position Lock processor making the photographic process more streamlined and less cumbersome for the user. So many new cameras have the tendency to make photography more about the camera and less about the end result. The H4D-60 brings the photograph back into focus. But wait! There's MORE!! Not only will the $40,000+ you shell out get you the camera of your wildest dreams, you get to become a member of the elite Hasselblad Owners Club. It is essentially the "Who's Who?" of professional photography, giving you access to potential clients, opportunity for new business exposure and SMS updates on new Hasselblad products.
Raghubar Das to be First Non-Tribal Chief Minister of Jharkhand
RANCHI: BJP leader Raghubar Das will be the next chief minister of Jharkhand, the first non-tribal leader in the state to hold the post. The decision was taken unanimously at a meeting of the party's newly-elected lawmakers in state capital Ranchi.
The BJP and its ally, the All Jharkhand Students' Union, had won the state polls, winning 42 seats in the 81-member assembly.
"Will bring development and good governance to Jharkhand... I want to thank everyone for this opportunity," Mr Das, a five-time legislator from East Jamshedpur said.
The 59-year-old, a former deputy chief minister and BJP vice president, had been touted a frontrunner for the top job especially after three-time former chief minister Arjun Munda, considered the tallest tribal leader of the party, lost the elections from his stronghold Kharsawan. (Read more...) Another former chief minister from the party, Babulal Marandi, who quit to form the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, is also a tribal leader.
Hence, the BJP is reportedly considering a tribal leader as deputy chief minister to placate the community which comprises around 32 per cent of Jharkhand's population. Neelkanth Munda and Shiv Shankar Urav, sources say, are the likely contenders for the post. Mr Munda, sources add, is likely to be appointed a national vice president of the party.
Two senior BJP leaders, Health Minister JP Nadda and Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, were the observers at today's legislature party meeting to oversee the election of the new chief minister.
Jharkhand has had nine governments and three stints of President's Rule since it was created in 2000.
In its election campaign, the BJP had promised a stable government in the state. It did not project a chief ministerial candidate and built its campaign around Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his development agenda. The PM had addressed several rallies in the state.

Taj Mahal Story
Taj Mahal, the magnificent monument that stands at the heart of India has a story that has been melting the hearts of millions of listeners since the time Taj has been visible. A story, that although ended back in 1631, continues to live on in the form of Taj and is considered a living example of eternal love. It's the love story of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, two people from the course of history who set an example for the people living in present and the future to come. An English poet, Sir Edwin Arnold best describes it as "Not a piece of architecture, as other buildings are, but the proud passion of an emperor's love wrought in living stones." The story that follows next will prove why the statement is true.
Shah Jahan, initially named Prince Khurram, was born in the year 1592. He was the son of Jehangir, the fourth Mughal emperor of India and the grandson of Akbar the Great. In 1607 when strolling down the Meena Bazaar, accompanied by a string of fawning courtiers, Shah Jahan caught a glimpse of a girl hawking silk and glass beads. It was love at first sight and the girl was Mumtaz Mahal, who was known as Arjumand Banu Begum at that time. At that time, he was 14 years old and she, a Muslim Persian princess, was 15. After meeting her, Shah Jahan went back to his father and declared that he wanted to marry her. The match got solemnized after five years i.e., in the year 1612.
It was in the year 1628 that Shah Jahan became the Emperor and entrusted Arjumand Banu with the royal seal. He also bestowed her with the title of Mumtaz Mahal, meaning the "Jewel of the Palace". Though Shah Jahan had other wives also, but, Mumtaz Mahal was his favorite and accompanied him everywhere, even on military campaigns. In the year 1631, when Mumtaz Mahal was giving birth to their 14th child, she died due to some complications. While Mumtaz was on her deathbed, Shah Jahan promised her that he would never remarry and will build the richest mausoleum over her grave.
It is said that Shah Jahan was so heartbroken after her death that he ordered the court into mourning for two years. Sometime after her death, Shah Jahan undertook the task of erecting the world's most beautiful monument in the memory of his beloved. It took 22 years and the labor of 22,000 workers to construct the monument. When Shah Jahan died in 1666, his body was placed in a tomb next to the tomb of Mumtaz Mahal. This magnificent monument came to be known as "Taj Mahal" and now counts amongst the Seven Wonders of the World. This is the true story of the Taj Mahal of India, which has mesmerized many people with its bewitching beauty.
Suhas Gopinath from Bangaluru(INDIA)---WORLD'S YOUNGEST CEO.....
When 14-year-old Suhas Gopinath started Global Inc ten years ago from a cyber cafe in Bengaluru, he didn't know that he had become the youngest CEO in the world.
Today, Global is a multi-million dollar company with offices in the United States, India, Canada, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, Australia, Singapore and the Middle East and has 100 employees in India and 56 abroad.
Among the several honors that have been bestowed upon this young man, the most prestigious is the invitation to be a member of the Board of the ICT Advisory Council of the World Bank..
In 2007, the European Parliament and International Association for Human Values conferred 'Young Achiever Award' on him. He was also invited to address the European Parliament and other business dignitaries assembled in the EU Parliament. He is also recognised as one of the 'Young Global Leaders' for 2008-2009 by the prestigious World Economic Forum.
Suhas is the youngest member ever in the World Economic Forum's history. The other members include the Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal, Hollywood star Leonardo Di Caprio, musician A R Rahman, Prince of Brunei , etc.
In this interview from his office in Bengaluru, Suhas Gopinath talks about his decade long journey and his dreams for the future.
· On his childhood:
I come from a middle class family. My father worked as a scientist for the Indian Army. I used to study in the Air Force school in Bengaluru.
As a child, I was more interested in animals and veterinary science. But when I saw my friends who had home computers talk about it, I had this urge to learn and talk in their wave length.
But we didn't have a computer at home. In those days, computers were very expensive and we couldn't afford one.
So, what I did was, I located an Internet cafe near my house. With my modest monthly pocket money of Rs . 15, I couldn't afford to surf the net every day.
I noticed that the shop was closed in the afternoon from 1 PM to 4 PM. So, I offered to open the shop for him after my school hours and take care of the customers.
In the bargain, he let me browse the net for free. That was the first business deal of my life and it turned out to be a successful one.
· On building websites using open source technology:
Once I got the chance to manage the shop and browse the net, I started building websites. It became my passion in no time.
I got hooked to open source technology after I started looking for e-books on how to build websites. They were not available as they were created in propriety sources.
So, I started using open source to build websites.
On getting the first contract to build a website
There is a freelance marketplace on the web where I could register and offer my services to build websites. I registered myself there as a website builder.
The first website I had to do was free of cost as I had no references. It was for a company in New York .
My first income was $100 when I was 13 for building another website but I didn't have a bank account. so, I told my father that I built a website and got paid for it.
I was not excited to get the money because money was not a factor that drew me to it. It was the passion for technology that attracted me. I used to build websites free of cost also. I was only a 9th standard student.
After that, I built my own portal and called it Coolhindustan.com. It was focused on NRIs. It was a portal where I wanted to showcase my skills.
· On buying his first computer
When I was in the 9th standard itself, I had made enough money to buy a computer for myself. At that time, my brother was studying engineering and my father thought he needed a computer.
In no time, I also bought one for myself. But we didn't have a net connection at home.
My spending hours in the net cafe working on websites did affect my studies. I spent the entire summer vacation after the 9th standard in the cafe.
On rejecting a job offer from the US
When I was 14, Network Solutions offered me a part-time job in the US and they said they would sponsor my education in the US . I rejected the offer because that was the time I had read a story about Bill Gates and how he started Microsoft.
I thought it was more fun to have your own company. Many US companies used to tell me that I didn't even have a moustache and they felt insecure taking my services. They used to connect my ability with my age and academic qualifications.
So, I wanted to start my own company and show the world that age and academic qualifications are immaterial. I decided then that when I started a company, I would recruit only youngsters and I would not ask for their academic qualifications and marks cards. I follow that in my company.
Gopinath delivering a lecture at the DLD Conference
· On starting his own company at 14
Soon after my 9th standard summer vacation, I started my own company, Global Inc. I wanted the name Global or Global Solutions but both were not available, so I named it Global.
I registered my company in the US as in India ; you will not be able to start a company unless you are 18. It takes only 15 minutes to start a company in the US .
I became the owner and CEO of the company. My friend, an American who was a university student, became a board member.
I was very excited because that was what I wanted to do. From that day, I started dreaming of making my company as big as Microsoft.
· On his dreams for his company
I have always believed that IT is not just technology but a tool that can solve the problems of people.
That is what I want to do in my company.
I want my company to be a market leader in software solutions concentrating on education.
When I was younger, I didn't care about money. Now that I am responsible for my employees, I care about what we make. If I am not bothered about money, we cannot scale up our business.
When I started my company from a net cafe in Bengaluru, I never ever imagined that one day my company would be a multi-million dollar company and I would be on the World Bank board as a member.
NASA Selects Commercial Space Partners for Collaborative Partnerships
NASA announced Tuesday the selection of four U.S. companies to collaborate with NASA through unfunded partnerships to develop new space capabilities available to the government and other customers. The partnerships build on the success of NASA's commercial spaceflight initiatives to leverage NASA experience and expertise into new capabilities.
The Collaborations for Commercial Space Capabilities (CCSC) initiative is designed to advance private sector development of integrated space capabilities through access to NASA’s spaceflight resources and ensure emerging products or services are commercially available to government and non-government customers within approximately the next five years.
The companies selected for the Collaborations for Commercial Space Capabilities and their projects are:
ATK Space Systems, in Beltsville, Maryland, is developing space logistics, hosted payload and other space transportation capabilities.
Final Frontier Design, in Brooklyn, New York, is developing intra-vehicular activity space suits.
Space Exploration Technologies, in Hawthorne, California, is developing space transportation capabilities that could be used to support missions into deep space.
United Launch Alliance, in Centennial, Colorado, is developing new launch vehicle capabilities to reduce cost and enhance performance.
“Companies in all shapes and sizes are investing their own capital toward innovative commercial space capabilities,” said Phil McAlister, director of commercial spaceflight development at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "These awards demonstrate the diversity and maturity of the commercial space industry. We look forward to working with these partners to advance space capabilities and make them available to NASA and other customers in the coming years.”
The Space Act Agreements (SAAs) have no exchange of funds, and each party bears the cost of its participation. NASA's contributions could include technical expertise, assessments, lessons learned, technologies and data. Sharing this existing expertise in a structured way requires minimal government resources while fostering the development of technologies to enable NASA to achieve its strategic goal to expand human exploration of the solar system and to advance exploration, science, innovation, benefits to humanity, and international collaboration.
These collaborations are one of several NASA partnership initiatives with the commercial space industry. Others include the Lunar CATALYST initiative, which selected three companies for commercial robotic lunar lander capabilities, and the Asteroid Redirect Mission Broad Agency Announcement, which selected 18 proposals for studies related to NASA's plan to collect and redirect an asteroid, then send astronauts to collect samples.
These initiatives build on the successful legacy of NASA's current and previous commercial space activities, including the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) initiative. Through COTS, two U.S. companies developed new rockets and spacecraft capable of providing cargo resupply services to the International Space Station. Similar initiatives are underway with commercial partners to develop human transportation capabilities for crewed flights this decade. On Sept. 16, NASA announced contracts with Boeing and SpaceX to develop and certify crew transportation systems that will carry astronauts from the United States to the space station and back on American spacecraft.
As NASA works with U.S. industry to develop the next generation of U.S. spaceflight services to low-Earth orbit, the agency also is developing the Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System (SLS), a crew capsule and heavy-lift rocket to provide an entirely new capability for human exploration. Designed to be flexible for launching spacecraft for crew and cargo missions, SLS and Orion will expand human presence beyond low-Earth orbit and enable new missions of exploration across the solar system, including to a near-Earth asteroid and Mars.

LG Fx0 is a transparent phone running Firefox OS
1.The Fx0 is certainly different from all previous Firefox OS phones, which have so far centered on being as cheap as possible. This one, though, is more of a design statement. That's why it will also be the most expensive Firefox OS device we've seen so far, being priced at JPY 50,000 (that's $414 or €340, by the way).
2.The Fx0 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, aided by 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage space expandable via microSD cards. It sports an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2.1 MP front camera. It has a 2,370 mAh battery, and it runs Firefox OS 2.0. Its dimensions are 139 x 70 x 10.5 mm and it weighs 148g.
3.In a first for a Firefox OS handset, the Fx0 will have support for both 4G LTE and NFC. It will be offered exclusively by KDDI and only in gold. A limited sale will start on December 25, and the phone will be widely available in Japan starting on January 6. Just don't hold your breath if you're hoping to see it sold elsewhere - smartphones from Japan rarely make it to other places.
PlayStation Now Coming to Non-Sony Devices In 2015
1.Right now, Sony's game-streaming service PlayStation Now is available only for Sony devices such as PlayStation consoles and Bravia TVs. But that's going to change in 2015, when Sony makes PlayStation Now available on third-party devices, beginning with Samsung Smart TVs.
2.Sony and Samsung have announced a partnership to bring PlayStation Now to "select" Samsung Smart TVs in the first half of 2015 in the United States and Canada. PS Now will be available as an app that can be downloaded through the Samsung Smart Hub.
3.Samsung says PS Now on Samsung TVs will offer "all functionality of the service," including the ability to earn trophies, play games online, and save progress to the cloud. You'll need a DualShock 4 controller, sold separately, to use PS Now on your Samsung TV.
